DJs
Choosing a Disco or DJ
Questions To Ask - recommendation is generally always the best way to choose
whom your DJ should be. Whether it is a friend's recommendation or previous
customer comments. If you are holding your event at a venue, can they recommend
anyone? If they sound vague or hesitant - find your own DJ. If they are enthusiastic
you are probably on a winner, but ask what music they played, make sure it
meets your tastes. Remember you are choosing an entertainer for your special
occasion so you will want to feel safe in the knowledge that this area is
taken care of and that you can concentrate on other things.
Agencies
If booking a DJ through an agency, ensure they will name the DJ that will
arrive. Many agencies may have attractive glossy brochures that may look compelling,
and may mention on or two DJs but they may well have many more on their books.
Can you choose the DJ who will arrive? What is their name? Can you speak to
them personally?
The Audience
Make sure the DJ is aware of what age group your audience will generally be.
Is it a family gathering, works night out, wedding reception or a school disco?
Make sure he has music to suit your guests. Maybe ask for a sample play list.
Those Special Tracks
If there are music tracks you particularly want played, ask if he can provide
them. Make sure they take a written note of required tracks. Or ask if you
can provide those special tracks, and if yes .. in what format, make sure
they can play your CDs or 12 inch vinyl's.
Testimonials
Ask for testimonials from previous customers, or a phone number or two where
you can ask questions.
Are you getting the right DJ?
If a particular DJ has been recommended, make sure that on the night it will
be that DJ and not the apprentice or a friend covering a double booking.
Equipment
Will they arrange all the equipment they need? Do you need to provide anything?
How many sockets will they need? Arrival What time will they arrive? How long
will they play?
The Fee
Get a written quotation. Vaguely mentioned prices can be different again on
the night. Do they need a deposit?
Listen
Ask if they are playing near you before your date. Somewhere where you can
go and see what their performance is like. If you can find the time, this
is often the best option. Asking a few well chosen questions at the start
can help put your mind at rest, because on the night what you want to concentrate
on enjoying yourself.
