A lottery grant is being used to help preserve the art of the Asian wedding, according to a local newspaper report.
The Vivaah Our Weddings project has just received £49,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project looks at the ritual, cuisine, colours and traditions of South Asian weddings and explains them to the younger generation in order to ensure that the traditions are not lost when these young people get married.
It is organised by Slough-based community group Apna Virsa which is delighted with the funding it has received, the Maidenhead Advertiser reports.
The project will be made up of four ten-week courses, including workshops and a celebration event which will be held this summer.
Michelle Davies, head of the Heritage Lottery Found for the south-east of England, told the newspaper: "The South Asian community in Slough will be able to learn about this heritage so helping to prevent its decline.
"Others will also receive an introduction to this exciting traditional ritual."
