Office parties can lead to extra-marital romance in stereotype and in reality, according to new research.
A study conducted by YourSpy has revealed that around 36 per cent of office workers have seen a colleague getting a bit too friendly with someone that was not their other half during an office bash.
The study indicated that an increasing number of Christmas party affairs are continuing online long after the last festive tune has been played.
Around 53 per cent of respondents to the survey said they had flirted with a co-worker at an office do, while 15 per cent said they had gone home with a colleague following the Christmas party
Around 23 per cent of people said they had flirted with a colleague over email or instant messaging.
When spouses and partners are banned from corporate events the likelihood of affairs shoots up.
Just 44 per cent of respondents said they had been allowed to bring a partner or a 'plus one' to an office do.
Andy Felton, director of Guardian Software Solutions, said: "The Christmas office party is the perfect stage for affairs to start.
"The heady mix of alcohol, familiarity and being out of sight of a partner can push people into silly mistakes."
