Brits 'not keen' on the office Christmas party

The British workforce is becoming a nation of Scrooges, it seems, with most employers preferring not to have to go to their office Christmas party.

A new survey by HR experts Croner found that 63 per cent of respondents would prefer to be anywhere but the annual corporate event.

Some 43 per cent of respondents said that, while their Christmas party was OK, they would much rather be doing something else.

One in five workers despises the Christmas party and do all they can to get out of it.

Jo Pitts, employment advisor at Croner, said that employers often stress out about having to organise their office Christmas party, with many choosing to opt for alternative corporate events.

She said: "There is of course still a risk involved with these types of events, however common sense should prevail and if guidelines are pointed out well in advance – your Christmas celebration, if you and your employees decide to have one, should be happy and trouble-free."
