The credit crunch is turning the UK into a nation of bah humbugs, as reports show people will be cutting down on Christmas parties this year.
More than three quarters of Britons revealed they will not be having a Christmas party in 2008.
But 78 per cent of Britons said they would still rather be invited to a Christmas party, with Londoners the most likely to want to go to other festive bashes rather than hosting their own.
Brits are also cutting down by planning not to fork out significantly for these parties.
Around 22 per cent of respondents said they plan to wear last year's outfits with women three times more likely to do so than men.
Gary Lumby, Yorkshire Bank's head of retailing, said: "The party season usually provides a welcome relief at the end of the year but it seems that many of us intend to scale back our plans this Christmas.
"However, being financially cautious doesn't have to mean an end to festivities. While it's important to be careful with money, de-stressing and having fun during the party season doesn't have to overstretch the wallet."
