Corporate sponsorship gong for Standard Chartered

Standard Chartered Bank was awarded the corporate sponsorship prize at the prestigious Hollis Awards in London yesterday, for its sponsorship and promotion of landmark corporate events.

The judges awarded the gong on the strength of successful efforts made to strengthen the company's profile, increase staff motivation and fill column inches in business, financial and local media.

The 2007 Standard Chartered Great City Race, which attracted a record 6,500 participants to run a five kilometre course around the capital's Square Mile, was highlighted by judges as the clinching event.

Event organiser Capitalize invited British companies to enter teams of between four and 20 staff. Nearly 400 firms took part, the majority from the financial sector.

The event was started by former world champion hurdler Colin Jackson OBE, who was also the so-called "face of the race".

Julie Smith, head of UK corporate affairs at Standard Chartered Bank, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have the corporate sponsorship award."

She said the race has become "a key part of our strategy of engaging City workers with the Standard Chartered brand".

Sponsorship of the race has provided a unique corporate hospitality platform for more than 800 top clients and staff.

In 2007, Standard Chartered also commissioned research which showed that team sports could boost production levels at City firms. The findings were validated by the Centre for Workplace Health.ADNFCR-1121-ID-18497106-ADNFCR
