New conference centre for the north-east

A new 30,000 square foot conference centre ideal for corporate events is to be built in County Durham, it has been announced.

York House Construction has been awarded the contract for the £5 million project, website venue.org.uk reports.

The company will help to build the new conference centre on the Newton Aycliffe Industrial Park for Xcel Holdings.

The project will bring much-needed jobs to the area and will seat around 1,200 people.

Bosses predict it will be used for corporate events, conferences and concerts which will make use of its movable stage and innovative presentation equipment.

Commenting on the project, Andy Bruce, managing director of York House Construction, told the website: "This is going to be an immensely rewarding project. It is a complex build which will offer some fantastic facilities."

There will also be an additional exhibition hall capable of seating around 250 people, as well as separate seminar rooms.
