The world's first major completely carbon neutral corporate event was a "resounding success", according to a leading intranet blogger.
IBF 24 kicked off at 11:00 on June 18th and was attended by thousands of delegates and executives representing the largest companies in the world.
The unique 24-hour online gathering was designed to showcase the latest intranet developments and invited leading lights to collaborate, network and exchange ideas in a virtual environment.
The intranet and portal benchmarking extravaganza featured a host of talks streamed over the internet, as well as a series of forums that visitors were invited to participate at their leisure.
Leading experts from Google, Microsoft, IBM, Nokia, BT, Nissan, Ikea, SAP, American Electric Power, Sara Lee and the BBC were on hand to take delegates "behind the firewall".
Executives from the first three firms gave keynote speeches, experts hosted question and answer sessions, while developers discussed topics from Enterprise 2.0 to governance and advances in global communication.
Jane McConnell, a respected intranet expert who runs her own blog and attended IBF 24, described the non-physical corporate event as a "resounding success".
"The bar has been raised," she said. "All around, it was an exceptional moment in the intranet space."
One of the major advantages of the conference was the fact that delegates from around the globe could attend simultaneously without having to travel long distances, making the event the largest and greenest of its kind.
With an increasing emphasis on climate change and the environmental impact of corporate travel, many are predicting that the virtual conference format will become the norm in years to come.
