West Ham stage corporate golfing event

West Ham United have staged an inaugural corporate golfing event at the club's Heritage Course.

Organised by former Hammers' star Tony Cottee, the competition pitted 20 teams of four against one another.

Each foursome was bolstered by a current or former West Ham player, as they played for points over 18 holes.

The corporate event raised more than £20,000 for charity, which was divided between the Richard House Hospice and the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research.

"It was great to see so many current and former players turning out and mixing with our guests ," said Cottee afterwards.

"I am so delighted with how it went and look forward to arranging event next season."

Striker Dean Ashton won the Top Hammer prize with 39 points, beating goalkeeper Robert Green into second place.

The best team was led by former player and scratch golfer John Moncur, while Scott Parker took the award for being closest to the pin.

Worst Hammer was Mark Noble with 17 points and organiser Tony Cottee was left red-faced after achieving the shortest drive of the day.ADNFCR-1121-ID-18583809-ADNFCR
