Online hotel descriptions 'accurate'

When you're planning an event, it is important that you have the correct information when booking a venue.

A new report by the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) has revealed that by and large, website descriptions of UK hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts are generally accurate and truthful, which is great news for party planners.

During a spot-check across 76 premises in England, Scotland and Wales, Trading Standards Officers found that only a handful of website descriptions were found to be remotely misleading or inaccurate.

The investigation findings form part of National Consumer Week, which begins on November 12th.

Richard Webb, e-commerce lead officer for the TSI, said the organisation has been pleasantly surprised by the findings.

He said: "Our expectation had been that we would probably find some websites making unsubstantiated claims.

"However, the reality was remarkably similar to what was described on the individual websites.

"The worst instances we found were not significant enough to warrant further action beyond advising the owner to clarify particular issues or make small changes to ensure visitors were not disappointed."
