Shepherd's pie competition
A leading manufacturer of stocks and sauces launched a competition to find the best shepherd's pie in the country at the NEC Birmingham during Hospitality 2009.
The Major International competition is held in conjunction with the Craft Guild of Chefs and the British Culinary Federation and David Bryant, managing director at Major International said it is a "chance to celebrate and support the UK's most popular main course".
Mr Bryant described shepherd's pie as a "national treasure" that is served in many restaurants including the Ivy.
Commenting on the objective behind the competition, Mr Bryant said: "We are looking for chefs to push the boundaries with the traditional staple ingredients of minced lamb, onions and potatoes and come up with new recipes giving shepherd's pie an innovative twist and wow factor."
Finalists will be asked to prepare their recipe at Major's new Innovation Centre in Northamptonshire in September.
Competitors will be asked how they have used Major International concentrated lamb stock paste or lamb powder in their shepherd's pie dish.
Major International will be exhibiting at Hotelympia 2008 from February 17th - 21st held at ExCel in London.
