The majority of UK mums feel under immense pressure when organising a children's party, with a significant number feeling the need to outdo other people, according to a new survey.
Organisation Les Enfants found that 26 per cent of mums want to throw a bigger and better party for their children than other mothers they are in competition with.
Full-time working mums found children's party planning the most stressful, with worries stemming around issues such as what to include in party bags and what party food to serve.
According to the survey, the average cost of a children's party is £200, with 11 per cent spending up to £300 and five per cent forking out up to £500.
A lavish three per cent of parents are prepared to spend up to £1,000 on a party for their child.
Commenting on the survey, Katie Burnett, founder of children's party specialists Les Enfants, said: "Each of these issues is yet another decision mums need to make when planning a child's party, so it's hardly surprising that most mums find it stressful.
"It can't be difficult, especially if you work full time and don't get to spend much time chatting to other mums, to know what children like and what will work.
"Mums feel under pressure to make sure their children have a good time, but also to be doing the right thing in the eyes of other parents. It gives a whole new meaning to party politics."
