Corporate caterers may have to label food with nutrition information

Corporate catering firms could be affected by new Food Standard Association (FSA) proposals to provide consumers with nutrition information.

That is according to eventmagazine.co.uk, which has spoken to chief executive of the FSA, Tim Smith, who has said that caterers are "welcomed to join in the consultation" that could see labelling of food become standard practice at corporate events.

The news follows calls for fast food outlets and restaurant chains to provide calorie information on their menus.

FSA chief executive Tim Smith said: "There is no compelling reason why we shouldn't see nutritional information when we eat out, as we are used to seeing it in supermarkets."

Mr Smith suggested that the FSA's research had pointed to the fact that consumers want to see calorie information on all its food whether in a supermarket or at a restaurant or event.

The FSA's initiative connects with the Government's Healthy Food Code of Good Practice that looks to encourage the food industry to support healthier lifestyles.ADNFCR-1121-ID-18981123-ADNFCR
