A new hospital and catering academy has been opened at Kirkby's Ashfield School, it has been reported.
It is hoped that the move will encourage pupils to consider employment in the corporate catering and corporate services industry.
The running of the academy will be overseen by Charnwood Training Consultants' Craig Harrison.
Mr Harrison has worked as both a head chef and a training manager in a number of restaurants in the UK, as well as the culinary arts director at New College Nottingham's Adam's Building Restaurant.
According to Mr Harrison, the academy will allow students to experience life as a corporate caterer.
"It's important to teach students while they are young about food and cooking, especially as it gives them the confidence to try new things, broaden their diets and, most importantly, give them a skill that they may never have given a second thought," he told chad.co.uk
"At the academy, we'll be giving Ashfield people the opportunity to experience our diverse industry and open the door to a geographical world of opportunities."
Wine classes and cookery courses will also be run for members of the community.
