New corporate event venue at Somerset House
London's Somerset House has unveiled its latest corporate event venue, Embankment East, which once housed the admiralty's fleet of barges when England ruled the waves.
Before the creation of the Victoria Embankment, the entertaining space was flooded and linked directly to the Thames, allowing ships to enter through a great arch at water level.
Today, the Embankment Galleries have been reworked into a striking and minimalist series of spaces with unparalleled views across the river from the fringes of the West End.
Situated alongside Waterloo Bridge, Somerset House boasts one of the most stunning courtyards in the capital, transformed into an ice rink over Christmas, with high profile concerts and other corporate events each summer.
The Grade I listed building has several galleries, a university, extensive catering facilities and offers are range of corporate entertaining options, with Embankment East the seventh unique venue available for hire.
Replete with steel and glass, plus hard stone floors, the new space is a blank canvas that can accommodate a reception with up to 300 guests, or 120 seated for dinner. Other venues can accommodate between eight and 2,000.
The Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery houses arguably the finest independent collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings in Britain, as well as a range of other treasures, but also acts as a venue for corporate events.
Up to 50 guests can dine alongside historic paintings, such as Edouard Manet's Bar at the Folies-Bergere, or stand for a reception of up 200. The Gilbert Collection and Hermitage Rooms offer similar luxury with varying capacities.
The Fountain Court itself is often used for grand scale London filming projects, gigs, concerts and ambitious corporate events, with space for a large stage, dramatic lighting and up to 2,000 standing guests.
There is also an intimate modern lecture theatre for presentations with up to 60 participants, plus the Navy Board Rooms and Seamen's Hall for receptions in historic surroundings, or private screenings and lectures for up to 120.
