As private parties become increasingly popular around Bonfire Night, a leading insurer has warned that homeowners should ensure their property and pets are protected.
Halifax General Insurance warned that consumers should make sure they have adequate insurance to protect their homes and their pets.
According to the company, the RSPCA receive thousands of calls around November 5th every year regarding firework related problems because pets are so frightened by the noise caused by them.
Homeowners should also ensure they stay safe while stoking home fires during their private party. Around six million Britons would risk their own health and safety, as well as that of their guests, by using lethal accelerants to boost the bonfire, a survey found.
"The 5th November is an evening that the majority of us look forward to but it is also an evening where we need to take extra steps to protect our homes," said Vicky Emmott, of Halifax.
"We are surrounded by explosives which have the potential to cause terrible accidents, and all of us need to be sensible and avoid taking unnecessary risks around fire and fireworks.
"It is important to double check your insurance to ensure you are covered for fire damage to property, personal liability, and garden damage. Those with cats and dogs may also want to consider pet insurance to protect their furry friends from the potential dangers of Bonfire Night."
