Brits worried about Christmas spending

British consumers are worried about how much money they will spent in the run-up to Christmas, according to a new survey.

Whether it is splashing out on Christmas presents, or buying a new frock for the Christmas party, the cost of festive preparations amounts to around £19 billion a year.

Around 42 per cent of Britons are worried about their seasonal spending, especially with rising interest rates and living costs which serve to stretch their finances even further.

Ross Dalzell, savings manager at Alliance & Leicester, which undertook the survey, said: "This time of year puts our pockets under the most pressure but it is still possible to save without being a scrooge.

"No one wants to be a party pooper or miss out on any of the festive fun – so something has to give."

Mr Dalzell said that while people have raised concerns about how much they are spending, they are not prepared to give up festive treats.
