Council broadcasts wedding on the internet

Dundee has become the first local authority in Scotland to put civil marriages on the web, according to reports.

Two couples getting married in Dundee over the weekend will make use of council technology to put their nuptials on the web for friends and family all over the world to see.

James Coughlin and Valentina Vorobeva will have their wedding cast to Russia, while friends and family in Cuba will be able to watch Bob Thomson's and Damacelys Vasquez's ceremony online.

Damacelys's parents, who cannot make the wedding, will be able to join in by doing a reading live over the internet during the wedding.

James Coughlin, whose bride-to-be is from Russia, said: "It is very difficult for Russians to get a visa for this country unless they go through a recognised holiday company, but we are hoping that Valentina's family can get involved using broadband, even though it will be one in the morning on Sunday for them."
