Parties left untouched by credit crunch

The credit crunch does not seem to have taken its toll on British party habits, according to new research.

A study by yell.com found that 85 per cent of Britons organise three parties a year and is a guest at 11.

Social gatherings cost the average Briton around £1,000 as they ensure they let their hair down with friends, family and loved ones.

British party animals spent the most on weddings, hen nights, stag dos, engagements or anniversary parties – forking out more than £100 for each party, the Press Association reports.

Surprisingly the group spending the most on social gatherings was the 55 to 50 age bracket, according to the study by Older Age Partygoers.

They spent an average of £20 more on seasonal parties and children's events.

Around 69 per cent of partygoers said Britons should throw parties for no reason whatsoever.

The study also showed that an increasing number of older and younger people turn to the internet to give them party ideas
