Weddings now 'bigger and better'

Wedding ceremonies are becoming more lavish and luxurious, according to bride and grooms-to-be.

A survey conducted by the Radisson SAS Hotel & Spa in Cork, Ireland, found that 68 per cent of couples are spending more than €20,000 on the Big Day.

Around two thirds of the couples said they were planning to invite more than 100 guests to their wedding, the Irish Examiner reports.

But with these increased costs come added stress, the survey found. However, it seems that couples are still as romantic as ever, with 80 per cent saying they believed in love at first sight.

Despite these romantic beliefs, it seems that wedding traditions are changing, with just 56 per cent of men getting down on one knee to propose and just 43 per cent of them asking their future bride's father for her hand.
