Brits spend more than a grand attending weddings

A significant number of Britons are forking out more than a grand to attend their loved-ones' weddings, according to a new report.

Research from money website fool.co.uk found that eight per cent of guests spend more than £1,000 watching their friends and relatives tie the knot.

During this wedding season, around 73 per cent of people will attend two nuptials, setting them back an average of £256 for each Big Day.

Some people are spending significantly more, forking out more for presents, travel and brand new outfits for the weddings.

In addition, for the one in 12 spending £1,000 or more, 18 per cent fork out more than £400 for each wedding.

Laura Starkey, financial expert at Fool.co.uk, said: "While the experience and memories of attending a wedding can be priceless, the costs associated with doing so can be substantial.

"Meeting these expenses can be tough - so it's vital that wedding guests think carefully about what, how and where they're spending and try to budget and plan ahead."
