With the average British couple now forking out more than £20,000 for their dream wedding, experts are warning people to make sure they are insured.
Industry experts at You and Your Wedding and Cosmopolitan Bride magazines have warned Britons to be "sensible" and protect their wedding financially should the worst happen.
According to the magazines' survey of more than 1,500 brides-to-be, entertaining guests is the biggest expense at a wedding.
Wedding receptions cost £7,724 on average, while couples also need to find £2,529 for venue hire, £3,497 for catering and £1,242 for drinks.
Add to that the average cost of £3,220 for a honeymoon and £1,412 for the bride's engagement ring and the prospect of wedding insurance becomes increasingly important.
Despite this, research by confetti.co.uk reveals that 80 to 85 per cent of couples still do not insure their weddings.
Matt Salmon, group publishing director at You and Your Wedding and Cosmopolitan Bride magazines, said: "As a magazine brand we would always encourage a bride to take out wedding insurance. If they are spending £15,000 to £20,000 on their wedding for a hundred pounds they can buy wedding insurance, I think it is a fairly sensible thing for them to do.
"I am not an expert in wedding insurance. It's the big things you want to insure against; your venue having a fire, things like that. Mind you, if they are buying products on credit cards they have a certain amount of insurance from those credit cards. Insurance is a useful thing to have."
