Rise in wedding queries at Mamma Mia island

Abba fans are flocking to the Greek island where the recent blockbuster Mamma Mia was filmed in order to tie the knot.

According to a report by the Guardian the island of Skopelos in the Aegean Sea has seen a marked rise in the number of enquiries about Mamma Mia-themed weddings in the area.

Mayor Christos Vasiloudi told the newspaper: "The phones never stop ringing. People call in all the time asking how they can get to our Mamma Mia paradise."

The report shows that movie buffs from all over the world including England and Hungary and as far off as Australia are considering getting married in the beautiful location.

Inhabitants of the island – many of whom played extras in the film – have welcomed the increased interest and thanked the producers for picking the location out of at least 25 other Greek islands they visited.

Greece as a whole is benefiting from it – especially in light of the recent riots.

Dimitra Rekkas at the town hall said: "They chose our island because of its greenness and the fact it really is a small paradise."
