Diana's 27-year-old wedding cake to be sold

A slice of cake from the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana is to be sold at auction after spending 27 years hidden in a loft.

The slice was cut from the wedding cake originally supplied by Classic Celebration Cakes of Cheshire, a company often used for corporate events and also favoured by the Royal Family. The slice measures nine square inches and was given to Moyra Smith who worked as a cleaner for the Queen Mother between 1981 and 1986. Moyra sadly died in July this year at the age of 78.

Moyra's widower, Donald, told dailymail.co.uk: "I found the cake in the loft, still wrapped in the same clingfilm she had put it in when she brought it home."

Moyra was said to have been particularly popular amongst the various members of the royal household, and it was apparently her wish to see the cake slice sold and the money given to a charity the couple set up to help elderly people in London.

The slice is expected to sell for up to £20,000.
