Around 40,000 British couples are choosing to get married abroad, new figures reveal.
A study by Luxury Travel found that UK brides-and-grooms are increasingly escaping to sunnier climes in a bid to have the perfect wedding.
Popular destinations for overseas nuptials include Sri Lanka, Italy, South Africa and Greece.
Meanwhile picturesque beach locations found in the Caribbean, the Seychelles and Sri Lanka are also proving extremely popular.
Additionally, Britons are being influenced by celebrity culture, with nuptials such as those of the Rooneys and Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster emulated.
Alyson Cook, editor of Luxury Travel, which undertook the survey, said: "Celebrities are leading the way, with A-listers such as Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster recently marrying in the European wedding hotspot Italy.
"Second marriages - amid older couples who have already spent on the big white wedding and whose children may have flown the nest - are increasingly spending their disposable income on expensive overseas weddings that can double as a party for friends."
