Setting a budget should be a 'first' for wedding planners

One of the first things couples planning a wedding need to organise is a budget for their big day, according to an expert with hitched.co.uk.

Francesca Moore, a spokesperson for the marriage advice site, believes that careful financial foresight will allow couples to be realistic about their nuptial plans.

With the average cost of getting married "rumoured to be around the £17,800 mark", the importance of setting a considered spending target is essential, she explained.

"Make sure that one of the first things you do when starting to plan a wedding is set a budget," the hitched.co.uk spokesperson said.

"This will give you a good idea on what you can afford in terms of the preparation, wedding day and the honeymoon.

"Put your priorities first and then work your way down. If it's a lavish dress, or an exquisite venue, make sure that you allow your budget to cover it and then maybe decrease the budget in other areas."

Securing adequate wedding insurance is also a must, according to the marriage expert, helping to provide "peace of mind".

Compared to other expenses involved in staging a wedding, cover "is actually a minimal spend, with probably the highest value," she concluded.ADNFCR-1121-ID-18549175-ADNFCR
