Wedding cancellations up, study shows

The number of weddings being cancelled each year is increasing, according to a new report.

A study by Debenhams found that the number of cancellations has gone up by around 50 per cent in the past year, the Sun reports.

It also discovered that having ill relatives is the reason given for most wedding cancellations.

Before this, "supplier failings", such as the bride's dress not arriving on time, were the cause of most cancellations.

Debenhams said that the costs of these cancellations are very high and couples should make sure they take out wedding insurance to cover them.

Diane Jackson, head of personal finance at Debenhams Wedding Insurance, said: "If you have spent the earth on making sure everything goes smoothly, the last thing any couple will want to do is pay out for the biggest day of their lives which did not happen."
