Wedding downturn spells disaster for bridalwear companies

The UK bridalwear market is suffering as a result of the fall in the number of weddings taking place in the country, according to new figures.

A market report from Key Note cited by company Bridalwear revealed that there were 9.5 per cent fewer weddings in 2005 than there had been previously.

In total, 283,731 weddings took place in the country – significantly down on the previous year, website just-style.com reports.

In order to limit the effects of the downturn on business, bridalwear companies are now endeavouring to push occasionwear for other events such as proms and balls.

Another effect of the fall in weddings is that couture wedding gowns will start to see an increase in price.
