Wedding stationery 'should be modern'

As wedding trends become more modern, so should the wedding stationery, according to a website.

Monika Day, founder of Wedding Writes, said that while there were fewer weddings last year than in 2005, the cost of the average wedding is increasing.

The average price of a wedding currently stands at £17,000 and the age of the average bride is also going up. Around 50 per cent of the women getting married are over 30, while 80 per cent of couples are paying for their wedding themselves.

Ms Day said that wedding stationery, including menu cards and place settings should reflect the modern feel of the big day.

She said: "It's no longer a case of the bride's mother selecting some slightly embarrassing silver-embossed cards from the local newsagent.

Increasingly, couples are choosing different venues than traditional places of worship so ordering stylish stationery that reflects today's diverse face of matrimony seems a logical progression."
